The piece which is entitled "Manuscripts from a reoccurring dream" is quite energetic and eventually took on it's own "life" in my studio. I had to trust my instincts with regard to it's final size and range of color. It was a challenging piece which hints of many of my interests. As an avid writer of letters and poetry, I see the piece as a collection of manuscripts. And while the 10 part piece is collectively quite large I design my art work so that it can exist in many ways. It is something I have been doing in the studio for a number of years. Each panel must be strong enough to exist on its own, yet be able to integrate with the other surrounding panels to form a larger work of art. These individual panels echo how I think words and music might look in color. The shadows dance in the background while certain painted surfaces transform into a type of calligraphy. While I cannot read a note of music, I love listening to music and encourage my children to take lessons. I listen to a wide range of music and find the transitions from Jazz to Classic to Reggae to be seamless. I think this is somehow present in my art. Entering the studio is always an adventure to me which brings out energies that would otherwise lay quietly within my mind. For this opportunity, I am always grateful.
